Some gunmen have struck in three local government areas of Rivers
State, killing four persons, including two members of the Peoples
Democratic Party in the state.
It was leant that the gunmen attacked some communities in the Gokana
and Eleme local government areas on Thursday, while they extended their
operation to Ikwerre LGA on Saturday.
A source, who identified the two slain PDP members as Lekia
Nzeregbara and Fred Teedom, said they were shot and killed in Ogale in
the Eleme LGA and Bomu in Gokana LGA.
According to the source, one of the men Teedom was a youth leader in
Bomu town and the PDP Vice Chairman, Ward 8 in the Gokana LGA.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Gokana LGA, Austin Sor, while
decrying the killings, called on the police to fish out those behind the
dastardly act.
“On Thursday, one of the party stalwarts, a stakeholder, Mr. Lekia
Nzeregara, was gunned down at Ogale in the Eleme LGA. His death is one
is one of those too many to mention.
“We totally condemn that. Shortly after that, at about 6.30pm or 7pm,
one of the youth leaders, Mr. Fred Teedom, who happened to be the youth
leader of Bomu and the Vice Chairman of Ward 8, Gokana LGA, was also
shot dead.
“I was told that those that shot him are the cult boys from that
community. We also want the Nigeria Police and other security agencies
to do their investigations and ensure that the culprits are brought to
book,” Sor added.
A group of hoodlums on Saturday also shot and killed two persons in Elele, in the Ikwerre LGA.
It was learnt that the gunmen, who were shooting sporadically, also abducted one person before escaping.
The hoodlums, suspected to be cultists, who were clad in black
attire, came into the place in a tinted car and operated without
restraint.
A landlord in the community said, “A group of gunmen dressed in black
attire invaded my compound in Elele at about 8pm. They came in a tinted
vehicle.
“They killed two persons and kidnapped another one. They (the killed
and kidnapped) are all my tenants. I don’t know why this happened, but
you are aware of what is currently going on in Rivers State.”
